The legal framework for financing through social insurance i.e. cost carriers (health insurance, public health care, social or youth welfare offices) is not clearly regulated in Germany for children`s hospices.
The daily cost of residence for the whole family in a children`s hospice is around 340 Euro. From this sum 250 Euro is allotted to the sick child (in comparison: a day in hospital costs between 350 and 650 Euro depending on the level of care required). For the first 18 days of residence the costs can be recovered from health or public health insurance companies.
From the 19th day onwards an amount of 78 Euro own contribution accures daily. Until now this sum has been paid through donations due to the fact that most of the families involved were not in a position to finance it themselves.
In addition the remaining monies, especially taking into consideration the cost of residence for parents and siblings, as well as their physiological guidance we arrive at a cost that most families cannot bare. Due to our unsatisfactory legal situation however, they are expected to bare the costs.
And that is where we come in
The fact that these costs are outside the reach of most families means that the children`s hospice needs to try to cover these costs as well.
